Things I have learned from 2011

I know its a bit early but with the quarter being over I finally had time to reflect and think and here are some lessons I learned and value:

  • Sometimes, you really do have to learn the hard way.
  • Disappointments and bitterness should not be sexist. Just because certain guys hurt you doesn’t mean all guys are horrible. All people can be disappointing, mean, and selfish in general.
  • “don’t be fooled by your emptiness, there’s so much room left for happiness” (kaskade) but seriously, if you only concentrate on what hurt you, it’ll block you from pursuing what can make you happy.
  • You can only complain and be depressed for so long.
  • Someone out there will always have it better than you but someone will always have it worse as well.
  • There is an enormous difference between those who are always there, and those who are there for you. As busy and stressed your life may be, never forget the ones who have helped you and made you who you are today. Thank them, and remind them that they still mean something to you.
  • No matter how fucked up your family life may be, family is family and it should be loved and cherished- despite the certain ways family members may show it.
  • The past, present, and future are all important, it’s up to you how you use them to guide and better your life.
  • Laughter enlivens the soul and is something that everyone can use more of.
  • Pride and protection are two very different things. Don’t let your pride get in the way of a certain possibility despite the fear you may have.
  • Be kind, for everyone is fighting their own battle, whether big or small.
